The Inter Livery Charity Clay Shoot was originally started by Dr John Garnam of the basket makers at the Holland & Holland shooting grounds in the 80’s. It was a very low key affair with thirty to forty guns who were mainly friends through City fraternities. Alan Ritson, Christopher Parr and Christopher Lawrence were fortunate to be invited to several of these events. Dr John Garnam had to give up organising the event due to poor health and the event discontinued.
Over the next few years, various other people tried to get the event up and running again. It took the input of Past master John Howard, Court Assistant Alan Ritson, Court Assistant Christopher Parr and Liveryman Sandra Parr to finally get the event off the ground in the summer of 1993. One hundred guns attended.
Fifty percent of monies raised are awarded as prizes to the winning teams nominated charities. The remainder goes to charities chosen by members of the organising volunteers, including a contribution of a £1000 to the Lord Mayor’s charity.
